In first days of cloud computing era, Google Reader and other web based feed readers may be the default option of many users to read feed. For me, Google Reader is my favorite feed reader especially when I install some addons to enhance it on my Firefox.
However, there are still people like desktop applications to read feed or they are in locations that a stable, fast internet connection is not always available. Hence, they prefer to download all feed contents onto their computer and read them later.
